I spent twenty years inside the beauty industry.
This is what I found underneath.
I built teams, developed leaders, and helped scale some of the most recognized brands in beauty retail — including a significant role in the national rollout of Ulta Beauty at Target.
I was good at it. The numbers showed it. The people I developed showed it.
But I also spent twenty years absorbing something I didn't have a name for yet.
The gap between what organizations said about their culture and what people actually lived inside it. The systems that protected the company instead of the people. The moment you realize that naming what's wrong makes you the problem.
My grandmother was a seamstress. She used to say “You can't fix what you can't see.”
She was talking about fabric. But she was also talking about this.
I eventually did the one thing those organizations hoped I wouldn't.
I read the label. I named what was in it. And I built something from what I found.
That something is Pretty Toxic. And what comes after it is Clean Leadership™.
